Heading for connected health: the Route du Rhum serving solidarity health

Heading for connected health
When the Route du Rhum becomes a powerful drive for solidarity and civic engagement
What if the Route du Rhum were also a human adventure for everyone’s health?
For the 13th Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe 2026, the association Espoir Santé Afrique (ESA), chaired by cardiologist Dr Guy Wéladji, is teaming up with Lycée Félix Proto on an original project: “Heading for connected health”. This international sailing event becomes a meeting point for medical innovation, cardiovascular prevention, education and solidarity.
Health is everyone’s business: everyone can play a part in prevention and solidarity.
Science serving a human adventure
As part of a pilot study on stress and cardiovascular responses in offshore racing, several skippers agreed to be monitored by electrocardiogram (ECG), including Kéni Piperol and Sébastien Simon.
Their commitment will help explore heart-rate variations and the physiological responses linked to solo sailing in particularly demanding conditions. A chance to bring medicine and sailing closer together while raising public awareness of cardiovascular health.

Young people, actors of solidarity health
The project takes on an educational and civic dimension thanks to Lycée Félix Proto. Two students, Naëlly Pierrot (STL track) and Yuma Baltus (ST2S track), had an exceptional experience in Saint-Malo: immersion in the world of offshore racing, a visit to the Groupe Dubreuil boat and a shared adventure combining science, health and commitment.
A key ambition for ESA: giving young people the chance to put their knowledge and skills to work on concrete projects that benefit everyone.

At the finish, solidarity is shared with everyone
The adventure continues in Guadeloupe: ESA welcomes the public in a space dedicated to health and prevention.
- ECG in Pocket : discover the electrocardiogram and get an ECG recording, according to a set schedule;
- cardiovascular disease prevention workshops;
- discussions on risk factors, high blood pressure and diabetes;
- educational activities to encourage healthy behaviour.
What if everyone set off towards more solidarity in health?
Skippers, students, teachers, health professionals, volunteers, partners and the general public: everyone has a role to play.
Because taking care of your health also means taking care of others. Because solidarity knows no borders and no finish lines.
